SOMAME_UET recently hosted a successful and insightful seminar titled “Past, Present and Future of Pakistan Steel Mill.” The event brought together students, faculty, and industry professionals to discuss the critical trajectory of Pakistan’s metallurgical landscape.

Distinguished Guests

The seminar featured two highly respected figures in the field:

  • Prof. Dr. M. Saleem Shuja, President of the Pakistan Institute of Metallurgy & Materials Engineers (PIMME).

  • Engr. Mian Akram, Director and Founder of Mill Roll Specialists.

A Proud Return to UET

We were particularly honored to welcome back Engr. Mian Akram, a distinguished alumnus of our department. After graduating with Distinction in 1972 from UET Lahore, Mr. Akram went on to become a successful entrepreneur, establishing Mill Roll Specialists in 1985.

With over 40 years of leadership in the industry, his presence provided our students with a rare opportunity to learn from a true pioneer who once walked these same halls.

Key Takeaways

The hall was packed with students and industry representatives eager to hear from the experts. The session covered:

  • The historical significance and challenges of Pakistan Steel Mills.

  • Modern innovations in metallurgy and material engineering.

  • The essential role of local industry in the nation’s economic future.

A Word of Thanks

We extend our deepest gratitude to Engr. Mian Akram and Prof. Dr. M. Saleem Shuja for sharing their invaluable time and wisdom. The department and the students have benefited greatly from their insights, which have undoubtedly inspired the next generation of engineers.
